It isn’t an exaggeration to say that establishing your body type is the most important aspect of developing and optimising your personal style.
Have you ever see a picture of an amazing outfit somewhere and then tried to replicate it only for it to look terrible?
It is likely that the model was a completely different body type to you and the outfit was emphasising his strengths which may be your weaknesses!
Once you know your body type it can be an enlightening experience and years of wondering what looks good and what doesn’t can be overcome in an instant.
So what are the different body types and which one are you?
Body Type 1 - Prince

The Prince body type is what you may class as the “standard” body type for a man and therefore the most common.
You fall into this category if your chest, waist and hips are all a similar size meaning all your proportions are almost the same and you’re relatively “straight up and down”.
Prince body types have the most flexibility and choice when dressing as there aren’t many

Style Do’s
Look for ways to make your shoulders look broader, double breasted jackets and structured shoulders will help.
Style Don’ts
Avoid oversize and baggy clothing as it will make you look like a child.
Body Type 2 - The Hunter

Hunter body type features broad shoulders, a wide chest and a narrow waist.
It’s important not to confuse the hunter shape with the Warrior as they are similar, however the Hunter has a more proportionate upper body shape.

Style Do’s
Most brands design their clothing around the Hunter body shape to most off the rack garments should fit you well.
Style Don’ts
Avoid oversize, baggy and loose fitting tops.
Body Type 3 - The King

King body types tend to be thick set to start with (but not always) and becomes more cylindrical when they put on weight.
Proportionally they are carrying a lot of their mass around their waste so this area tends to be wider than their hips and chest.
The rest of the build tends to reflect this as well, with shorter, broader limbs that widen at their midpoints.

Style Do’s
Look for ways to broaden your chest and shoulders. Wear tops a darker shade than your trousers.
Style Don’ts
Avoid slim fit and thin body hugging fabrics.
Body Type 4 - Lord

The Lord body types are predisposed to being larger around the waist and hips in relation to the top part of their bodies, especially as they get older.
This creates a natural triangular shape with the base at the waist and the tip at the face.
Having a Lord body shape does not necessarily mean you’re in bad shape but it may mean that you struggle to find well fitting clothes as most brands design their garments with the opposite shapes in mind.

Style Do’s
Look for ways to broaden your chest and shoulders – horizontal strips on tops is a good options.
Style Don’ts
Avoid slim fit shirts and trousers so as not to draw focus on your wider hip area.
Body Type 5 - Warrior

Warrior body type is
The shape of this body type is a big triangle with the base at the shoulders and the point at the belly button.
Your well-developed chest and shoulders are significantly broader in comparison to your waist and hips. You probably spend hours at the gym every week working up an enviable muscle pump. Hectic training sessions in the gym result in accentuated shoulders and thighs and a narrow waist.

Style Do’s
Wear slim fit and/or tailored items wherever possible, your natural shape will make you look boxy
Style Don’ts
Avoid “Regular fit” and thicker fabrics for your shirt.
